Merseyside CADG Match

The date has been announced for the Merseyside County Angling Development Group (CADG) match. It will take place on Saturday 30th July at Chester Lakes Fishery on the outskirts of Chester. Lymm are looking to enter a team of 6 13-16 year olds to possible go forward for national selection into the Team England set up.

Press Day/Clubmark Presentation

On Sunday 20th March we are being presented with our Clubmark certificate by Darren Birch of the ADB. It will be a regular junior session so will be a good chance to how we coach and what kids gets out of our program.

It will be held at Woodside Pool and the presentation will happen at 3pm.

Clubmark nearly there

Today I met with Darren Birch from the ADB to go over how our clubmark folder is progressing. Many of the elements are now complete and we are approx. 95% complete.

There is an assensment panel in Decemeber, our deadline to meet this panel is 15th November.

Flyers Finalised

Lymm join CADG

Last night I attended Cheshire Angling Development Group meeting. The group was established to bring together the main clubs within Cheshire to increase participate within Angling and support events involving Juniors. Last summer they held a 60+ junior match at Border Fisheries and are planning further events.

Clubmark Coaching Day

In order to fulfil required Clubmark elements we are going to host a coaching day for Lymm High School to be held on October 24th at Woodside Pool. This will allow to be fully Clubmark accredited by March 2011 and also a test-run on our coaching sessions.

Lymm High School meeting no.2

I met again with Patrick Hendrie from Lymm High School this time with Eric Hazzard who currently teaches angling within the school. We offered our club lakes to use for these elements in return for promotion through the school and for Eric to be involved with our junior section. This bring a level 2 coach into the club.

Juniors Online

Myself and Brett McPhee have been working on ways to have an area specifically for juniors within our current website. Both as information to non-members as well as regular updates to our regular members. We have added two forum rooms of the exisiting club website as well begining to construct an information page that will be linked to the homepage.

In March we invited the Sports Development officer from Cheshire West & Chester council to discuss the clubmark scheme and what benefits we gain by being certified.

We feel that this an important step in creating the junior section, it offers reassurance for parents/guardians of prospective juniors.

Start of Project Woodside

After meeting with the EA we submitted a bid for funding at Woodside Pool in Dutton. The plan is to install a fishing platform to accomodate 8-10 anglers as well as putting toilet and classroom facilities onsite.

After my meeting with Andy from the EA we began the long round of getting our coaches qualified. Andy will fund two coaches to do the next Level 1 course and the club will look for funding to reach level 2.

Yesterday I met with Andy Eaves from the EA who looked at prospective venues to deliver intensive coaching sessions supported by the EA. He explained what facilities are required and how to the EA can assist.

Junior Section started

In January 2009 Phil Hatton and I made enquiries about creating a junior section within Lymm Angling Club my childhood club. Since 2005 the section withered out when the previous coach was unable to continue.

In November, after consideration from committee a decision was taken to re-launch the junior section and I was brought onto the committee to oversee this task, working with Phil Hatton together we began.

After a discussion with the EA it was clear it was no easy task. The committee had made it clear that things need to be right, no half-measures used.

This meant getting fully-qualified coaches in the club, being 100% legal and insured.

And so the task begins. In this blog I will go through some of the challenges, highlights and general day to day stuff I face along the way. I hope you enjoy this and find it somewhat informative.
